2 instances of same OS showing on bootup?

I installed a new hard drive in a very old machine for some friends of mine. The machine is a gateway and is at least 10 years old. Anyway I formatted the drive as NTFS and installed their old windows OS (XP, Home Edition). Now every time the computer boots, it presents with the choose OS screen. but it shows 2 instances of Microsoft XP Home Edition. I have to click on one to get the computer to finish booting up. Is there anyway to get rid of that so when the computer boots, it goes right into Windows XP. As far as I know there is only one version of windows on this hard drive.

Thanks for any help you can give.

There is an easier way of doing this but I'm not at home so can't give you exact directions. Ill be home this afternoon. There is an option in the msconfig utuility to check all boot paths and it will remove the invalid one for you.
