i just did a clean install of xp. now every time the computer boots up it asks which operating system i want to use. the choices i get are both for xp pro...they're the same exact thing. problem being i only have one os. before i reformatted i completely wiped the hard drive so there is no possiblility of having 2 copies of it on there.

i dont know if this would be causing the problem but i did install an oem version of windows on a dell pc cuz i didn't want all that extra crap software that dell puts on there.

You can edit the boot.ini file in the root drive that your o/s is installed on. i.e. C:\boot.ini.

You won't be able to see it unless you change your folder options to display system files. You will see the list of operating systems in there such as:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows XP" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows XP" /fastdetect

Just delete the ones you don't want to show up. Better make a back up copy of the file first though.
