2 partitions, can be merged back to 1?

Hi, I have a laptop hard drive of 320GB, and long ago I made a partition out of it, the main one holding the OS (C: ) and another partition to place random files on (D: ).


I would like to put it all back to 1 entire drive (C: ). The thing is that I don't have any media to backup my 2nd partition (D: ) and format it before merging it.

Ok so what I want to know is
1) how to make both those partitions into 1.
2) If I need to delete everything on the 2nd partition (D: ) in order to merge them back.

You can use partition magic or disk doctor or similar programs to merge them. I would still back everything up as they sometimes fail.

Using a program such as Partition Magic (as Cromewell mentioned) works great, you do not have to delete any files or worry about losing data (although it's a good idea to back everything up). You can merge the two together, resize them, create additional partitions, etc as well.
