I have 2 cat 5e cables. When i connect my laptop and desktop with one cat 5e cable i get a speed of 1000 mbps. But when i use the other cat 6 cable i get speed of 100 mbps. What makes the difference in speed? Is this due to the arrengement of wires? Like straight , cross over , roll over??

No, has nothing to do with the cable. One pc has a gigabit ethernet controller(10,100,1000) which allows 1000mb max and the other pc only has a standard ethernet controller(10,100) which only allows 100mb max. But that is misleading since most high speed internet providers can't even reach 100 mb service. I know comcast has 150mb service though.

Thanks for replying..
Well Im not connecting to internet. Just connecting 2 computer .. And both are 1000 mbps capable. i get 1000 mbps with the old cat 5e but 100 mbps with new cat 5e, in the same computer. WHY???
