Yes as long as your video card has 2 outputs. You can set it up in the display properties.

i got into display properties bur i dont know how to change the video car to 2 outputs

Right Click on your desktop>>Properties>>Advanced.
Now, you should a black box labeled "1" and a gray box labeled "2". Right click on the gray box and select "Attached". Now, change the resolution and the postion of the second monitor relative to your first monitor.
And there you go, second monitor enabled

What is your video card? if you just have some integrated poo, then you cant use two monitors.

And as for your other question, both ati and nvidia are about the same when it comes to dual monitors so it doesnt really matter. If you do plan on buying a video card, just post a link so that we can make sure it supports dual screens(just in case)

what moto said + make sure your motherboard has a open slot for it before you buy it. to tell if it has dual monitors look at a picture of it

Well it doesn't really work for gaming (which is hard on say, 3200 x 1200 resolution) but for ordinary desktop work it is perfect for fitting multiple windows. The gap isn't really noticable.
