Windows 2000 Pro or XP Pro?

I have a Gateway G6-333c, 333mHz Celeron, 256MB Ram, 40GB Maxtor DiamondMax+8, which operating system would you guys recomend for it.
One of my other systems is an HP, AMD K6-2 300mHz, and 160MB of ram is running Xp Pro and it isnt very fast. If I put XP on the gateway, is there going to be a big speed difference between my Gateway and HP.

ur os has nothing to do wityh the speed of it it is just the effiecientcy of the way things are set up what will affect the speed is ur cpu and ram wich u dont got much of

i dont want to use 98, because i have to use xp or 2000 for my ipod to work

i wasnt it complaining about it not being fast, i just asked if that put XP on my gateway, if it will be any faster than my HP

i just called Maxtor today, and got a new HDD, because my other one was faulty, so a new HDD is out of the question for a while. ive already put 2x128 pc100 pieces of ram in, replacing the original 2x32 pc100. im planning on getting 512mb of ram. what about a processor upgrade?

i wouldn't really bother upgrading, just save up some money and get a new comp.

Dont get 512mb RAM. It would be best to save up until you have enough for the 1GB. For proccessor it depeneds on what you want. If your into gameing get a AMD Athlon. If you like multi-tasking and other needs get a Intel. I suggest a AMD Athlon 64 3000 because it is a great CPU and very easy to overclock. *Remember that the ghz scales are messured differently from Intel so dont think because the 3000 is at 1.8 means its slow because a P4 is at 2.8.

My mobo only supports 512mb of ram, and my celeron processor is Pentium 2 Class. I dont think an Athlon 64 will work on my board.

Well your best bet would be building a whole new pc. Look at my sig, I built that for only 600$ because im on a tight budget, and that computer would go for about 1,000 from alienware or dell.

If you want add me on msn or aim so I can talk to you easier.

You should look into a new computer. That thing is way too old. You might be able to run linux on it though...
