2005 XPS Revival

I acquired an old XPS from my brother. He parted out the graphics card, RAM, DVD drives, hard drive, and sound card (If there was one). My parents want to use this computer as a "new" desktop. They have entrusted me with this task. I set a budget of around 150 or so dollars to spend. The cards, RAM HDD, etc don't need to be flashy, as this computer is 6 years old. With that being said. I have looked VERY tentatively at items, and came up with the following. As far as RAM goes, I need to contact my brother in order to determine which type of RAM the system uses. It's an old P4 so I'll be sticking with that.

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161322

DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135224 (this system has those old clunky ribbon cables to attach drives to, is this the right plug? I forget the connection name)

As of now, that is it. This is a VERY tentative look at parts, I just did this within an hour. Would these components work with the PC I was given? I can get information about the RAM speed, as well as the PSU wattage.

Let me know what you all think. Thanks for any comments.

What model number is the XPS? If the computer uses the wide flat ribbon(IDE CABLE) for cd drives and hard drives then you picked the wrong type of hard drive and dvd drive. Buts its possible the motherboard supports SATA.

Looks all good to me. Honestly, if the board has SATA connections then get a SATA dvd burner and do away with the old clunky IDE cable.

IDE cables, that's what they are called! Thanks for that. The computer model is "XPS Gen 5" I'll check for SATA ports tomorrow. If the board does in fact use SATA I will get rid of those clunky IDE cables. They are unsightly.

I am still in the clean out phase. This is one DUSTY old computer. A fun task though.

ktec: That card is within my budget. I might go with that one instead.
