22" Monitor for a friend

I am helping someone I know pick out a 22" LCD monitor. He wants to spend around $150 or less.

He picked this one out himself:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-9332&~ck=baynoteSearch&baynote_bnrank=8&baynote_irrank=0

He asked me if I could find anything cheaper. Are all Dell monitors higher quality than brands like ASUS, Acer, etc? Or is it just the higher priced models? I have always heard that Dell is known for making quality monitors.

I found a Dell on ebay and it seems like a good deal.

This same monitor on Dells website is $190. How is it so much cheaper on ebay? It looks like Dell is the seller and it is coming directly from Dell.

Compusa has 23 inch LG 1080p monitors for 150 right now!! I wish I had the cash right now to buy two of them. That's the best deal your'e going to find. They're 100 bucks off.

Don't bother with screen sizes, look at the resolution! For example, 1920x1080 is the resolution of my monitor (LG Flatron E2240V) which just happens to be a 22"

I wouldn't buy screens on ebay because I've had bad experiences. My personal preference though.

Here's a good monitor I found on newegg:

I really do not have a problem with buying one from ebay. Although I have never bought a monitor from eay, I buy several things off ebay and only had trouble once or twice. And I was always able to return it for a refund.

I would suggest something like this

I know its a 20'' But it is an amazing panel.

Or if he is willing to go a bit above the budget then.

Both are NEC panels.
I would strongly recommend in going with one of those.NEC makes excellent panels.

I will have to check with him on how much he wants to spend. He probably could afford it since he was going to buy a computer but ended up getting one for free. So he is using that money to buy a monitor.

That looks like a nice monitor. I will have to let him know about that one.

That one Dell I linked to is an LED monitor. Is there any reason to get an LED monitor? I forgot to mention that he does not play any games or watch any movies.

I don't understand this resolution stuff. Why do same size monitors have different resolutions?

Thanks for all the help.

1080p is probably what you're going to want. The higher the number the clearer the image is basically. There are HD resolutions of 720i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p for standard monitors currently. There are higher resolution monitors but they are a lot more expensive. The I stands for interlaced and the P stands for progressive which looks better because every frame is being refreshed at the same time and in interlaced every other line is refreshed at the same time. I have a 23 inch 1080p gateway monitor and I love it.

well i would go with a samsung, generally stick to companies that specialize in things, samsung being tvs, ect. Also in terms of 1080p and 720p, the rule is usually that anything under 40 inchs (around there) you can really tell much of a difference from 1080p and 720p.
