22" or 24"?

Right, at the moment I have a Samsung SyncMaster 920N, granted, it's a very nice monitor. However, I fancy something bigger (having SLI also makes me want to go bigger).

I was looking at the difference between 22" and 24" monitors. I can find some good 22" monitors for around £100, but, 24" monitors seem to be around £100 more (£200). Is it worth it? Suggestions?

I'm going to be looking in the January sales.

Thanks!

No I don't think it's worth it. It's double the price for 2 more inches.

My monitor is 17" and I don't have any problems with size. You don't need such a huge monitor :P

Ps: are monitors really that cheap now? I might get one but my 2 year old monitor still works like a charm.

In my opinion, no it's not worth it. Unless you are talking about a 26/28", the extra 2" isn't worth twice the price.

At the moment you have a 19" I believe so yeah I would go for as big as you can. Why settle for a 22" for say £110 when you can have a 24" for £199.
An extra 3" over 19" or an extra 5" over 19" :)

I went from a Samsung 226BW to a 24" MVA panel monitor (the monitor itself is sold off by a brand called "DGM" (got it for £230) although the panel it uses is the same as the BenQ or LG panels which retail for ~£300 - £400). I have never looked back. It's only 2" more, but it just seems so much bigger! Now I have a 24", I would never go back to anything smaller.

Having said that, if you feel you don't want to shell out a bit more money for a few extra pixels (540000 to be precise) then go with a 22" monitor. :P

usually id say hit up the 22" because theyre nice and big, but we got a beautiful 24" monitor at work the other day...its orgasmic :D

1920x1600 is the res, i think...god, i want it :P

I found the extra 2 inches very noticable. It's twice the price, granted, but I couldn't use a smaller screen now, even 22's seem tight. Even the base model acer I got is pretty nice in terms of quality; it was 170 squids when I got it.

I decided to go all out and I got the 28", but again I still wouldn't spend almost twice the price for just 2 more inches.

I'd get a 22" simply for the price. I don't think the price difference justifies the extra 2"

Too bad you guys don't have Hanns-G displays over at UK, do you?

Sure do, plenty of UK sites sell them. Cheapest 22" about £112 or 167 US$ at the moment.

Does the extra 2 inches bring double the pleasure? If so, than it may be worth it...

I guess it depends on how big you like em...

;-)

I'm telling you man! They're cheap and excellent quality! ;)

I'd recommend one of those ... I have a 19"w and I haven't had any problems at all. The image is clear and they look slick!

I think that double the price is not worth the extra 2" you will get. If you have money to blow buy all means get the biggest screen you can afford.

I have a 22" screen and it's amazing:) I have the Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW and it's a great screen for the price. A few people I know also have 22" screens and the Syncmaster looks and performs soo much better! I would highly recommend this screen to almost anybody.

Alright, thanks guys! I guess I'll really have to see if there's any good deals on 24" in the January Sales, if not, I think a 22" would be more suited for me.

You get 1920 x1200 with the 24 " but it slows your frame per second over the 1680 X 1050 .Probably not worth it.I went from a 22" to a 27.5 "(hannspree) and the extra screen size is nice but if I had to do it over again I would probably stay with a 24".On the big screens for me at least I had to move it back some so I wouldnt have to move my head to scan the monitor just my eyes .When you move it back it kinda defeats the purpose of a larger screen

It would be better to get a high quality LCD because sometimes the colors although bright dont look quite bright.Especially shades of black.I have the newest drivers for my card although it is old so that isnt it.I would have probably spent the money and got a PVA or ISP monitor instead of a TN.Somethimes you cant differentiate between doors and hallways playing some games.not always though just depends on how the game is shaded.

Edit * Omega, do you notice this with your Hanns G on certain games since its just a different model of the Hannspree?

Gah, damn you Korn why did you have to make this thread :P

I was thinking about getting a CPU for xmas, now I have other ideas! (And Im already cpu limited) :(

*Goes on the hunt for monitors*
