24" LED display with HDMI sugestions?

Hey guys, I am looking at upgrading my current monitor (LG 22" 1680x1050) with a 24" LED monitor.

I use my monitor for PC gaming and also playing my 360 so I am after a monitor with both DVI and HDMI. It seems like most monitors these days are coming out with the 1920x1080 resolution so I assume that would be better for gaming on my 360. I also understand that the 16:9 ratio is going to give me less vertical height and more horizontal width. Can I expect a 24" 10:9 to be about the same height as my 22" 16:10 monitor but with the added horizontal width to the sides.

Ive looked at a few monitors and am currently considering this one:

I was also thinking of getting this one instead as it has a brightness rating of 300 cd/m2. Yeah it is 23.6" but I figured the added brightness would be better then the extra 0.4". I can't seem to find that monitor anywhere though but can easily find the one I posted above.

Anyone know why I can't find the VE247H anywhere??

What do you think of Asus monitors? Ive heard tons of good things about their GPUs and motherboards.

Anything else I should be considering besides the ASUS?

looks nice but the thing about monitors is (well i like to atleast)you should check it out in person... ask about their return policy...just b/c it has good specs doesn't mean they made the monitor well... there are tons of LG and samsung monitors...great specs... looks like donkey Sh*T lol usually u get what u pay for ... so if its like 299$ i think it should be ok... but if its like 99$ lol sketch.... post some pics if u get it i'm looking to get new monitors :)

Hey thanks for the advice. Only problem is I don't know of any local place where they sell them. I was going to order online from NCIX or another online store.

It's usually best to avoid Asus monitors. Cheap TN panels, low quality, and not great value. Try to go with a brand that makes it's own screens. Asus buys a bunch of cheap panels from LG or Samsung and rebrands it as theirs.

The LG W2486L is pretty much the best LED backlit monitor you can get for the money. Dual HMDI inputs along with DVI. Along with a very high quality panel with good backlighting.

99% of all consumer monitors(disregarding some of apple's products, and including the W2486L) you find are going to be TN displays, the cheapest IPS display for a 24" i've ever seen was a model from NEC using a CCFL backlight, and relatively poor response time, for ~$300. Asus has taken quite a footing in the display market, and manufacturers many of their their own panels, as they have been manufacturing panels for their notebooks for quite awhile as well. Asus has consistently been a highly rated display in the consumer market. Just because a manufacturer is rebranding a panel does not mean the product is of lower quality, some of the highest rated displays from Dell use panels from other companies, and the Asus warranty is among one of the best warranties out there as far as displays are concerned.

I was looking into that monitor as well but I can't seem to find it for sale in Canada for some reason.

How does the Samsung BX2450 compare to the LG? I can get the Samsung locally right now for $270 ($80 off) which is a pretty dam good price for buying it from a local retail store.

How much of a difference does 250 cd/m2 brightness make over 300? The Samsung has 250 and the LG is 300.

Also not sure if I want another LG.. The first one I bought had two dead pixels, I returned it and got a new one. The second one fried on me within 2 months.. The third one has been going strong for 3+ years and is the one I am currently using.. Just not sure how well I trust them since it toke 3 monitors till I got a good one.

Yes, but their is a huge difference between a quality TN panel and a cheap one, ala Asus. Asus has some of the worst laptop screens on the market in terms of color gamut and quality. That's probably their only real shortcoming. And I doubt the warranty is going to beat the LG 3 year perfect panel on-site warranty. Samsung's warranty is just as good, but without the on-site pick up.

Hey guys, just posting an update and looking for some possible advice on the few monitors I am trying to choice between.

I have narrowed it down to either
-Asus VE248H ($210 24")
-Samsung XL2370 ($280 23")
-Acer G245H ($220 24")

I am leaning towards the Samsung as it has great reviews and the color is apparently amazing on it. I just can't decide if losing an inch and paying $70 more is worth it for the samsung. I just added the Acer G245H to the list and a lot of people are saying it is better then the XL2370. It does not use an LED backlight though...

Also considering the Samsung PX2370 but it is quite a bit more money and I read that the contrast isn't as good as the XL2370.

Asus ve247h

I just bought the ASUS VE247H and I'm trying to get it to look good. The display is washed out, like it's past saturation and the pixels are are showing in vertical lines. So far it's a waste of money. If I can't straighten it out then it's going back. The picture reminds me of taking a 32 bit jpg and displaying it on 16 color (only not quite as bad).

Do any of you know what might be the problem? So far, I'd say steer clear of this one.

I have the BX2450, and I love it :)

Both Asus and Samsung are quality monitor manufacturers. In my mind they make the best monitors, and are the most attractive.
Whatever you do, avoid Acer. They're cheap, they're useless, they're unreliable, they're everything you would expect from Acer.

I disagree. I quite like Acer. While I don't know Acer's manufacturing process (eg, the whole "asus buys used monitors from LG" which I'll have to research as it sounds bullocks to me), I've purchased 9 monitors from Acer (all x223w if you care), and only one ever had a single dead pixel (which, Acer promptly let me return for a new monitor!). The build quality is very nice, they're bright crisp fast displays, and if I were to buy again, it would be Acer (or Asus).

Though Dell has some very nice sales every once in a while, and their monitors are top notch.

I'm in the percentile who stays away from Samsung/Sony/LG monitors. However, Samsung/Sony/LG tvs are great IMO.

I personally stay clear of NEC.

My .02$.

Yeah I've got an Acer LED monitor and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Its got fantastic colour, decent response time and didn't break my bank. No complaints here. Can't say that applies to all Acer monitors, but that's just me.
