I'm helping a friend select a power supply (so he can upgrade his Video Card in his new HP) and he says that his motherboard has uses 20pin rather than 24. If he purchase a 24 pin PSU...would it even work/fit or would he have to buy some type of adapter?

Thanks

Well my power supply is a 24 pin connector, but they split them into two, one 20 pin connector, with a 4 pin connect next to it, and i think most power supply's do this.
So youll be fine.

Something like this

Most 24 pin power connectors have the 4 pin that snaps apart, just make sure the one you get does but they do make a 24 to 20 pin adapter

Even if the extra 4 pins are secured, you can still connect it. I believe you can just have the extra 4 pins not connected, while the 20 pins needed will still fit.

It will work sometimes but alot of boards will have a transistor or cap right next to it so it wont slid down or some of those old 20 pin connectors on the boards will have a thick egde that wont fit between the pins.
