Newby, be nice.I have the opportunity to purchase very cheaply a brand new 250gb hdd out of a HP N40L mini server. The drive was removed when the server was delivered and replaced with a much larger hdd. My question is this. Will I have any difficulty installing Windows 7 on this drive or even clonng my existing C:/ to the new drive? Any help is welcome.

Should be ok, just make sure it is formated

Yup most definatly will be fine as long as your motherboard is IDE or SATA and so is your HDD.

Just plug it in, run the OS CD and format the disk, done :)

I used Killdisc on it. Single pass 0s. should be ok, I hope. Now all I have to do is get MS Windows Professional and Microsoft Office off another Dell disc I have. All legal, got all the cases and key stickers ets. Dell also askes for the service number. Got those too.

As long as you are installing it on the same motherboard, it should be fine. If you're using a different motherboard, it might not work.

No its true. A motherboard or video card is a trigger. Ive had the problem before and explain to microsoft. Then received a new key. My situation was a build. Likely and won't happen with an oem.

Looks i made a mistake. I read again. A bigger hard drive will not make a diff. Its other hardware that can be an issue. Since that was the question asked. A hard drive change.
