Grr, Why don't they just make a really high end card? I know it's stupid since most of the market lies in medium ranged cards, But word of mouth plays a part too. Everybody except those loyal to ATI/AMD is badmouthing them at the moment. It wouldn't be a bad move to make something really powerful.

On the other hand, the technology they're currently pursuing may be stumping them. Why, for example, would they release such mediocre cards when everyone was expecting so much more? It wouldn't have been by choice IMO.

i dont know thats probably why they pushed the release back so far with driver optimization. They just finished the cards architecture and realized they had dropped the ball and on top of it they had hyped the release to high heaven. i have a really bad feeling ati/amd is going to go out of business in the next 5-10 years.

Hi,

Why would they build a card that no one can buy? ATI/AMD is at the right path, but they need some time to rebuild a bit from Intels strike.

For the same reason stated above. If ATI had a killer card(s) like the 1950 series, then everyone wouldn't be jumping down their throat. Thus ATI would garnish a better rep, decreasing likelihood that some ignorant end user would go Nvidia simply because "everyone" says AMD sucks.

I know the HD2900xt cards don't suck, hardly anything further from the truth. It's just the huge hype surrounding them was so big, And when they were released and didn't live up to that many gamers were pissed. Why did ATI let us think this, etc. ATI is on the wrong side of many people simply because of this.

yeah i like ati but they disappointed me. i didn't buy HD 2900XT for 3 reasons:

1, it just came out price cost more than 8800gts
2, it is slower than 8800gts and cost more than it
3, the overheat problem and the crazy power comsumption. ( 8800gts is already hot HD 2900XT is atleast 2 or 3 times hotter than 8800gts

There's different catagories with the 512bit models catching the higher price there. Plus you can expect more models later. Just after ordering the RX2600XT here a better model by MSI was seen for $5 less at newegg? The list of 2900s has grown a little in the last few days it seems as well.

It depends more on application. Not everyone uses 512mb or now 1gb GDDR memory for gaming. Video, graphics design, animations, and the list goes on there will see use for having the larger amount there. For strictly gaming the 128-256mb now mainly 256mb is the best suited. The one thing to note about ATI cards is that they are not geared just for gaming machines being focused on performance only like seen with NVidia. This is why they maintain the reputation for seeing the best image quality.
