2900XT or 8800GTS or wait?

I am looking to upgrade my outdated X850XT with a top of the line model. I cant figure out which is better. I hear the 8800 can handle more textures but the 2900 has more Shader Processing units but the 8800 has 1.45 Ghz shader clock speed while the 2900 has 743Mhz

Which card is physically better for games like Bioshock call of duty 4 and Gears of war on the same system? Or should i wait until the 3000 series or the geforce 9 series and DirectX10.1? and what is the difference between DirectX 10 and 10.1?

I would actually recommend you to get a 2900 pro. It is just an underclocked 2900xt. Simply oc the card. Flash the BIOS to an XT to improve stability at high oc's.

Unless, of course, you can find an 8800GT that's actually in stock.
