2gb --> 4gb?

Is it worth the upgrade? I just installed Windows Vista on my new computer, important specs as follows:

2.22 AMD dual core 4200+
2GB RAM
GeForce 7600 GT

It is noticably slower running Vista then XP, Just here and there, Windows Aero works flawlessly. A lot of it could be the bugs in Vista that still need to be worked out. I would apreciate any input. Thanks

I doubt it would make much, if any difference. Also, isn't there some limitation. Something like you can only run 2GB in 32bit mode?

just watch your ram useage

unless it's frequently maxing out, you wont notice a difference with added memory

now, FASTER memory is another story

certain programs (namely photoshop) are almost entirely ram-speed dependant

You could have a 1.8ghz computer with ddr2 800 ram run photoshop faster than a 2.6ghz processor with cheap ddr2 400 ram

Good call... So far I havn't found a game I could not run on my system without a swap file. I mean I ran Test Drive Unlimited along with Photoshop and some other programs just fine...

ok thats all i needed to know.

But speaking of games, I cannot get BF2 to work right with Vista. The game works j ust fine until I try to patch it with 1.41, it just tells me that it can't find the installation folder. I am re-installing bf2 right now, hopefully that will help.

And yes I am something of a gamer, but I don't need insane graphics, I just like it to run smoothly on medium settings...

Works perfectly fine for me. Don't forget to run the patch with Admin rights and in Windows XP compatibility mode. You will also have to run the game (bf2.exe) in compatibility mode with XP and give it full Admin rights, otherwise you'll get an error when you join a server (Incorrect O/S Privileges). :)

Yeeeaaahh.. I have no idea how to run "in windows XP compatibility mode"... Nor do I know how to give a program admin right... I know how to run things as admin though.... I've only had Vista for a couple days...

Right click the file => Properties => Compatibility tab => Tick the box in Compatibility mode, and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Then, further down the window, under Privilege level, tick "Run the program as an administrator".

Done. :)

Awesome its finally patching. Thanks a lot. Did you notice BF2 running a little slower with Vista?

No. As a matter of fact, both my games (UT2004 and BF2) run better. I think it is down to Vista's Memory Management. Have fun with your game.
