2GB Ram stick in my dell...

Dell E510...

Crucial specs say I have the ability to max out at 4GB in 4 slots. I does however say that I can put a max of 2GB per slot. Currently I have 4x1GB installed but I'm wondering if I really can use 2x2GB and if that will be any better.

Question 1:

Does that make sense...can my motherboard take 2x2GB?

Question 2:

Would it improve anything?

Question 3:

Does it need to be in pairs...can I use 2x1x1GB or does it need to be 4x1GB or 2x2GB?

Having 2x2 will not give you any more performance over 4X1. But yes, each set of memory for each channel has to be the same or it won't be recognized properly. The size of each set though, can vary, so one channel could be 2x1 and the second channel could be 512x2.
