2x 7,200rpm 16MB cache or a Raptor

Hey, I am trying to figure out the configure I want and am tossing up between 2x 7,200rpm 16MB cache hard drive in RAID 0. Or just going with a Raptor.

The amount of memory for music etc isnt a problem because if I need more space I will just buy another HD. Also the reason why I didnt list the exact 7,200rpm hard drive is because I havent decided on Seagate or WD. My concern is performance, not space. So performance wise what would you people choose.

I'm running a RAID 0 configuration and I'm happy with it. However, I've heard some convincing arguments against this type of setup. Your data is less secure with this type of config. You can back it up, but it's more difficult to restore the data if your array is damaged, for example. Although technically faster, you may not "notice" the performance increase against, say, two 7200RPM drives in the same type of array.

You might want to look through this search for more info about the downsides of RAID 0. Some of the threads are irrelevant. Find the posts written by tlarkin. ;)

Thanks for the info. I went through the search and found my answer. I though doing RAID 0 would help gaming performance, but found out it actually wont.

Thanks

for simplicity sake, i would just get a raptor. RAID 0 is very delicate and your chances of getting a corruption is greatly increased. raptors are corporate level reliability so you won't have to worry about it there. and if you just want pure performance, then set up a RAID 0 of 2x raptors :D

oh and btw, if you need more space later, adding another raptor to make it a RAID 0 will not increase your storage capacity. it's also not possible. if you already have a drive that you're running off of, turning that drive into an array will require a format so you'll have to back it up first.
