2x 8800GT or 9800GTX ??

8800GT SLI will perform better, but heat/power comsumption is a lot more as well.

@ $350 mark, you might like the HD 3870x2. Better performance than 9800GTX, you don't have to purposely buy a SLI capiable motherboard. Single videocard's power consumption and heat is improved over the normal dual gpu setup.

The two 8800s will give better performance....at least overall...the main difference with the 9800 and the 8800 was the addition of a chip for blu-ray acceleration with the 9800....in fact two 768mb 8800s are still scoring slightly higher overall and gaming marks over two 9800s.

yeah, but the 9800's have the 3 way sli option if your looking forward into the future when games and other graphics intensive programs are going to demand even more.

Nah, Two 8800GT's will be far better than a single 9800GTX, Seeing as an OC'ed GTS is very close to a 9800GTX in performance...

I'd actually look at SLI'ing two 8800 GTS G92's! Those things would blow games out of the water!

the graphics guru has spoken. i am not worthy....:P

I heard that 2 x 8800GTs are better even than a 9800GX2!
Yeah the SLi setup will give better performance... and plus, it's just so cool anyway!

If you solely look at 3DMark06, the 9800GTX will get over 16K with overclocking on a Q6600 (that is OC'd as well) as well. Plus the loss of performence between two 8800GT's SLI'd and one 9800GTX is not big enough. And still, when you really want the SLI then you can get a second hand for much cheaper later on.

(PS; I changed my order after initial testing of the rig at the shop, from two 8800GT's to one 9800GTX, and I am planning on getting a second one when prices drop or when I see a cheap on second hand.)
