Hey everyone. I'm thinking about SLI-ing two 9800 gtx's but I'm not sure whether I should do that or get a GTX 260 Core 216. Which would be better?

the 2 9800 gtx's will beat the gtx 260 in performance however you should take into consideration the upgradability, you cant add to a sli'd pair of gtx's but you can with a gtx 260!

but haven said that you already have a 9800gtx it would prob be better just buying another

show us some links to the cards you are looking and see what the price will be

also what is the spec of your psu?

the 2x9800gtx+ would be better on performance, however the single 260 would have much less power draw and also would have future upgradability, so i would say the 260 over the 9800gtx in sli.

Both options will give ample performance for anything you throw at it with decent frames, but the dual 9800gtx will be outdated before the 260, and then you will nowhere to go except ditch both cards.

Can you not sell the 9800gtx+ and get a 275 or 285 using the money from that?

a single 9800gtx according to nvidia should have 450watt 24-30amps on 12volt rail i dont think your psu will be cut out for sli

Okay so if I was to ditch the 9800 gtx+ and get a gtx 260, I should also get a power supply starting at around 700 watts?

the 260 wont use as much power as sli 9800gtx, ill just check

recommended 36amps on 12volt rail for the gtx 260, if the spec of your psu is right then its pushin 36amps on 12volt rail "send me a link to your psu" just to make sure i have the right one on my screen

yes you need a new psu if you decide to do either of your choices, maybe you could get away with the gtx260 but i wouldnt chance it!

its a defo no to sli on that psu!

thats the problem with some psu's, they offer high wattage but low ampage on 12volt rails

Just to give you an SLI point of view. I've got two 8800's in SLI and they're awesome. I'd say they were above the GTX260 and maybe around the GTX280. There isn't a game I can't play maxxed out, sometimes I even force up to X8 AA!

yeh the sli's will be the best performance, but i dont think the 36amps on the 12volt rail will handle it!

Another vote for sli, but you'd probably need another psu. The GTX260 core 216 doesnt give as much of an advantage to "upgrade" to one, if you were to go with a better singlecard from the 9800gtx+, go for a 275 or 285.
