Hi...
I am a bit behind the times but would like to know, is the 3.5 inch floppy drive needed to boot on an optiplex 745? there is only one bay, with a floppy drive in it, I will never have use for it and would like to install a multicard reader that I have into that bay, and remove the floppy. Should this cause me any problems? I'm swicthing over from my OLD Pentium 4, to the above. Something is telling me that years ago the drive was needed to boot up the system? Like to know before I start.

thanks

chris

A floppy drive may give you an alternative way to boot the system for diagnostics and such if you can't boot from the HDD but if the computer's BIOS allows booting from CD\DVD or USB then it isn't needed. That's why new computers don't come with floppy drives anymore.

i know this is off topic completely but on the homepage it just says "3 1/2 inch floppy..."

made me lol a bit

thought id share that
