Hey guys got a new one. Old gateway tried to put more memory in and nothing happened so the old memory was put back in and now all it does is beep 3 times. It is running in the background just no video now any suggestions?

its a gateway 500sltd dont know what the bios is as its not my computer and i'm the 2nd person to look at it...

if it's an american megatrends bios, here's a list of their beep codes:
1s (short) System RAM refresh failure
2s Memory parity error
3s Base 64-kbytes memory failure
4s System timer failure
5s CPU failure
6s Keyboard controller Gate A20 failure
7s Virtual mode exception error
8s Display memory read/write error
9s ROM BIOS checksum error
10s CMOS shutdown register read/write error
11s Cache memory error
1l (long) - 3s Memory test failure (non fatal)
1l - 8s Display test failure (non fatal)

its a RAM failure... either the actual modules or the slots on the motherboard. best way to test it to chuck the modules in your own pc and see if they work, if not, replace them, if so, new motherboard.
dont lose all hope yet, if you have more than one memory module, try changing slots a few times as it sometimes works when they are in a different order.
