3 Monitor Question

Alright, first off I'm new here so go easy on me :)

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RA820G.

It has a ATI Radeo X300 video card. I currently have it setup to run dual monitors, with my desktop LCD being my main monitor and my 27" CRT as the second monitor which I only use to view windows media center. I'm using the "extend my desktop onto this monitor" function for the CRT.

I'm about to upgrade my computer, and I'm planning on getting a 20-22" widescreen LCD as my main monitor. I'd like to keep my current LCD as secondary, and have my 27" CRT as a third monitor. I'd keep using the CRT for media center, and probalby only use the 2nd LCD for windows media player and maybe AIM.

What do I need to do this? Would a second video card be the answer? If so any suggestions? Also, I got a deal through my company on Windows Vista Ultimate which I plan on installing after I upgrade my RAM to 2GB if that helps the situation.

Any help is appreciated.

Oh and side note, I'll probably be ditching the 27" CRT in favor of an LCD tv that I won at work eventually.

Yes, you will need an additional video card. You shouldn't have many problems with this, but most video cards can only run 2 displays at once.

Looking ghetto doesn't concern me. The CRT isn't in plain view from the desk, so it's not like there would be 3 different sized monitors in a row. There'd be two different sized LCD's on the desk, one for music, the other running most programs. Function > form.

i'm running an x1300pci-e for one monitor, and a $80 x1300pci with dual dvi out for the other two

works fine, as long as you don't care about gaming.

Thanks! Suggestions on cards then? I don't do too much pc gaming (most of my gaming is on the 360) but I know Vista will utilize directx10. I don't want to spend tons, but anything under $250 should be alright.

Vista doesnt utilize DX10 as such, mre like it can support it so you can run DX10 games on it, so there would be no gain to you if you didnt play DX10 games (there are none at this point in time, a couple coming soon though)

I have that card (The BFG OC version though) and its a great card, for what you need, yes, i would most definately say it is overkill, you can get an extra card to do what you need for well under $150
