Hi all,
I am still looking for the information about this eyefinity with 3 monitors, Can a single HD6950 or 6970 do it, or I have to get crossfire with 2 cards? I want to use 1920x1080p resolution with all 3 monitors.

Anyone have information about this?
Thank you.
Paul

With the adapter it will be able to push all 3 monitors but it will be a struggle with some games. What games are you wanting to play?

It will do it, but you will be far better off with 2 cards for gaming at 57X10. Even a 7970 struggles at that resolution as a single card. Two 6950s should be fine.

Thanks for reply, I don't do games, I do stock and FX trading; It require having 3 or more programs open the same time, and the job is very boring, I don't mind to have this forum open and read through interesting stuff and do some chatting the same time as I monitor the market moves.

I have to stream data from my brokers and the trading programs. it is not very intensive, if it need 2 cards, then I think even HD5850 can do it if I am not wrong.;)

I just don't want too much heat in my room as where I live is very warm most of the time. plus the electricity bill will kill me if it has to pull 500watts or more as it have to be on more than 8 hours a day.
Thanks again.

maybe i'm wrong here, but i don't think you need eyefinity for that, just a video card with 3 input ports. eyefinity enables your computer to read all 3 monitors as one display, so three 1920*1080 becomes one 5760*1080. this is only useful if you want one window to maximize across all 3 screens.

if all you're needing is 3 screens where each window will maximize on each screen a video card with 3 input ports will do, or one with 2 input ports and a usb-to-dvi converter.

You can't use more than 2 of the ports without an active adapter. I don't really know the technical reason behind it but if you put more than 2 monitors on a single card without the adapter. Only 2 will work. Eyefinity would solve this problem. He can just leave the desktop extended rather than in a single display group.

Right, I didnot have any highend card to try the 3 monitors, but I have try a laptop with 3 display connectors which only 2 is working the same time. The software didnot support 3 monitors. Since Eyefinity support 3 monitors in default. I just have to get a card or two will power the 3 monitors with 1920x1080p resolution. It should be much easier. I plan to buy 3 22" to 23" Asus monitors with 1920x1080p support and one of them with native display port connection.
The video card is my problem. I don't know which one can do the job. I prefer 1 card if is possible, if not then I have to buy two cards with crossfireX?
I need to know so I can build the system according to these specifications. Anyone have any experience on this setup? Can it be done in one card?
Thanks.

Did you look at the one that I posted earlier? That will work with the adapter. Buying 2 cards would be a waste.

That is out of stock, I don't think they stock it again.
Is more stream processors better than less stream processors on a video card? is HD6850 better than HD5770? When those monster card HD6950 or 6970 use more power even they not fully used? do they have like idle mode then they are not require full power?
Thank you.

Did some reserch and AMD say most of the hd57xx series and 68xx series are support eyefinity. I am wait a little till end of February to order, hope the price will come down as new cards support to come out. I plan to buy one of the 6970 or 6950 card and if any money left I also get one 6850 for backup as when I start the setup I can't affoard it fail.
Thanks .

You do not need anywhere close to that much power. Get a 1gb low powered 68XX and call it good. Even that is overkill for what you are doing.

If your not gaming, or doing anything explicitly graphical dependant, then yeah go with the hd 6850. Solid single monitor performance in gaming, and 3 monitor for what you need it for will blast it.

YOu may even get away with a 6770 to be honest if all your doing is a couple of programmes.
