3 Monitors

Just for clarification from another thread.

I have one X800XL in a PCI-E slot running dual monitors.

I want to get one more, a 19 inch and run it through the same computer without SLI or Crossfire.

Can I buy a cheap PCI card and run the third screen through there, so that they will all run simultaneously.

I'm not quite sure. It may run simultaneously, but I technically never tried it. I think I'll have to pull out two PCI cards and my big belugas and try.

Windows 98 could have something like 8 monitors goign at once(maybe many more, I forget) But I'm quite sure there's some way to have multiple monitors going on a current system. What gets me, though, is how many addaptors have the ability to use two monitors. Most of the time this isn't controled by windows "default" display settings.

But... I've never tried having more than 2 monitors on a systems so I don't know. Though I still have my Radeon and some other cards(even a PCI that supports 2 monitors) Maybe I'll play with it today.

I actually had this running on my "tester" machine with an AGP Radeon 7000(found before my 8500 :P) and a PCI GF4 MX440. I was kind of expecting the TV-Out on the Geforce to act as another monitor, but I guess not.

This was done using the standard Microsoft drivers.

Actually if you run SLI you can't have more than one monitor :) (I think)

And yes, you can buy a cheap PCI card and run the 3rd screen on it. That's what i just did, except with a AGP card and a PCI card.
