30'' gateway laptop & 30'' SAMSUNG MONITOR

first post here so hi all. I was just given a 30'' SAMSUNG Syncmaster 305t as a gift. However, right now all I have access to is a 1.5 year old gateway laptop that only has one VGA port, and the monitor has a DUAL LINK DVI-FEMALE. I've been to Best Buy numerous times now, along with Circuit City, and RadioShack to no avail. I understand the resolution will not be native to say the least, however, I would at least like to see how it will look before I go out and buy a brand new machine. Any help guys? Is there an adapter out there or VGA-DVI cable for my situation with this monitor? Remember, the dvi side of the adapter must be FEMALE, I just got an adapter at BestBuy, and it seems to be male as it has 1 prong surrounded by 4 little prongs(wont fit).

Yes there are those types of adapters.

But if it doesn't end up working I'll take the monitor off your hands. :)
 
Ok, so there are adapters that will work for me in this spot with my monitor and laptop? Where can I get it?
