So whats the best bang for our bucks these days? I need something to replace my toasted 8800gt, something that will be able max out the settings on current games like l4d or waw....

I did a little reading and I think the ati 4890 would be a good choice... does anyone object? what would be a better choice?

specs: quad core e6600
4gb
600W psu
1 pcie16x slot

What numbers do you guys look at when you're considering the performance of a
graphics card? I see texture fill rate, and the type/amount of ram. Besides power
requirements, are any of the other numbers important?

Also take a look at the GTX 275 1792mb edition, for $310 you get the same amount of shaders as a gtx 285, but with a few less ROP's, ~750mb more frame buffer than gtx 285, cheaper, but also a 448bit memory bus instead of 512bit. Imo, its the best card for the money right now

GTX 285 all day for the money. I love mine so I'm biased of course. You're PSU can push it just fine and it overclocks really easy if you want to.
