would a 300 watt psu power an xfx 6600 gt video card on a system with two cd drives, five fans, asus k8n motherboard, amd athlon 64 3000+. I am running it fine right now with a radeon 9700 pro graphics card, but i am thinking about getting a 6600 gt. would it work???
My current system seems to normally be around 150-200 watts(CoolerMaster PurePower with the wattage meeter) so yeah, it should work but I'd certainlly look into upgrading to something more powerful...
I can tell you next week when my 6600gt gets in since I have a 300 watt psu, except it will probably be a different situation, I only have 13 amps on the +12v rail but since my processor is an athlon xp it doesn't take power off the +12v rail, I think that the amd64's do.
^^ Not the wisest option is it? Anyway, I would still suggest getting a better PSU. You may not encounter any problems now, but after some heavy load, you may encounter problems. Even if it still works, I am almost sure that your voltages do fluctuate a lot as a result. It's alwas good to have headroom.
NOTE: I have a 550Watt PSU (which may sound all nice) but my 2 12 volt rails only have 12 amps each. That's not the best...and to mention, my 5 rail is very unstable going as low as 3.5 Volts!
yeah I only unplugged one of my fans because it was really loud and I didn't need it anymore, since it was bought just to cool my old card a bit because I had it OC'd, the new card doesn't need any ocing.
