30GB Ipod, <30GB Hard Drive

Ok, I have a 30GB Video Ipod, but just recently I realized that I may not have the same amount of disk space on my Computer's Hard Drive. So it might be impossible to use all the space on my Ipods hard drive, since I dont even have enough on my computer. Am I right in my thinking, and basically completely screwed with a device that I paid $300 for yet was better off just buying a 5GB mp3 player for a 1/4 of the price. Pleeeeeeease someone tell me I'm wriong :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:
 
But doesnt the Ipod automatically update from the library once you reconnect it to the computer, thus if the file is no longer in the library it will no longer remain in the Ipod??

i dont think it deletes things from the library. And you can turn that option off, so you manually update it. I believe that option is in the ipod option tab.
 
Automatic updating is not necessary, you can disable it.

The ipod will work just like an external hard drive.
 
Oh yeah, I remember seeing that option, but never really paid attention it. Guess I didn't put 2-and-2 together. Thanks. Oh and I have anopther question: Is there any way of converting video files to Mp4 format quicker, in order to download to the Ipod??

you can add a hard drive to the computer for under $100 :)
theres an 80gb sata2 on newegg for $45
of course you'll need sata but IDE drives cost about the same i believe.
 
The movies convert in realtime- so if you have a 3 minute movie, it will take 3 minutes. If you want to convert a full length movie, itll take an hour. And thats with my comp- on older or slower ones, itll take longer than realtime.
 
You just have to use the manual update,
I had the same problem with my computer, even though i had 10 more gbs of hard drive space (40 gb hard drive) I had so much crap on there that i had barely 5 mbs of space left, i used manual update and it helped me alot
