3200+ to FX55???

I'm looking to upgrade to a FX-55, whilst keeping the remainder of my system intact. I have a power supply with 29A on the 12v rail, will it be just a matter of taking the old processor out and popping the new one in, or do I have to worry about BIOS settings and the like?

My motherboard in question is on the AMD's approved list for the FX-55 by the way.

I believe there a good chance that it will be as simple as taking the old cpu out and putting the new one in.

Yeah

There should be no trick in it. I mean I do not see a reason as to why it should not work.

Well, by looking at your signature, it says:

AMD Athlon XP 3200+

which is a completely different socket type to an AMD FX-55. This would mean you need to buy a new motherboard...

LOL Rambo, it just hit me about the socket types! What an obvious thing to miss - I must be dense or something...!

Maybe I could force a socket 939 onto a socket 754??? (Only kiddin'!)

Case closed then - new processor, new motherboard. Cheers.

Lol

You must have been joking man! That would be quite a surprise to order an A64 and try to put into socket A ;)

Well (1) the A64-3200 comes as a S939 too if i recall and (2) Socket939 CPU into a Sockey754 interface shouldnt be too hard considering its got a Socket462 chip in a Socket754 board right now :P

But yeah, if you want a FX55 chip, you need a S939 motherboard :)

referring to the joke above, just in case you didn't get it magicman, you DO know that you don't have a socket 754 board, right? :P

I do have a socket 754 board - the 3200 comes in either 754 or 939.
And typo on the signature - I've a 64 not XP.

I really need to start getting some sleep... :o
