Hopefully this will help me and a few other people out...

I game at 1280 x 1024, out of the two 8800GTS', which would be better band for bucK?

Will future games require the 640MB of vRAM? Or would it be wasted money?

640MB. The price difference isn't as pronounced as it used to be, and certain future games *cough Crisis cough* will benefit from the extra VRAM.

You're 7950GT is perfectly fine for now, you dont need to upgrade yet. Why not wait until the new series comes out?

But if you really must know, the difference between the two is $80. I would get the 640MB version just so you wont be wanting to upgrading a month after getting it.

I am, I'm not getting it till February next year :P
I can sell my 7950GT to a friend who's building a new comp. :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, better to be safe than sorry, eh!

If you're not buying it until Feb. of next year, why are you looking now? By then there will be much better cards out.

And they'll be more expensive as well. I believe he's considering the 8800 because of the price drop the card will likely encounter by that time. Good reasoning, Unless of course a mid-high range card is released that has a greater performance, and justifiable price, which never happens, they're always too expensive as of the new tech rule.

But sure, Kornowski makes his fair-share of jumping-the-gun threads, no offense! :D I remember the super huge OC thread awhile back, he only learned he didn't have to OC yet, lol. :)

Exactly what hermeslyre said, they'll of come down in price, with the release of the new cards!

lol, I do? I just like to get a heads up, know what I'm facing you know :P I don't have to OC, but I will :D No offense taken :)

I'd get the 640mb one

Yeah, it looks like it's going to be that one.

Yes, but look what happened? You bought the 7950GT for cheap because the 8800 series was out. So if you bought the 8800 when the 8900 or 9 series are out, you will want to upgrade again.

Nah, I think I'll be pretty happy making the step to DX10 with a card that's a lot better.

I only got the 7950GT because my 7900GS XT broke on me and they gave me the option to get another card and pay the difference as the 7900 had been discontinued.

Still, I think you should wait until February before deciding and before making a poll, because who knows how much the new series cards will cost, and if they stop making the 8800GTS 320MB or something.
