I am unable to upgrade my machine until next year. But the wifey was feeling bad for me and is letting me buy a video card. I have been thinking about the x1950 pro AGP 512Mb (probably HIS Radeon) but was worried that my machine will not power it or run it.

Current setup
P4 3.0 Ghz (believe its a Asus P4C800 mb but its been 4 years since I put my rig together)
2GB memory
128Mb 9800 Pro AIW
350W power supply.

Do you think my power supply will handle the card? I dont have much hooked up at the moment. 1 hd and 1 dvd drive until I upgrade next year sometime.

I believe my Mb will handle the card as its AGP but I am still a little worried about that as well.

Any help would be great.

A x1950 series card might run on a quality 350w PSU, though it's is pushing it alot, like the chup said, expect middle of game shut-offs and the like. More important than wattage is the 30a +12v that series of cards eats up, and I'll hazard a guess that OP's 350w PSU doesn't have close to that amount of current.

Buy a new PSU if you want a 1950 card. I'm running an X2 3800, 7600gt, 2GB RAM, 2 HDD, etc on a really generic 250w, 10a +12v PSU.(waiting on replacement) I can even play crysis, oblivion, etc fine, no shutoffs. I wouldn't thought it possible had I not seen it, so you may get lucky, but don't count on it.

Thanks for all the input. I have an Antec PS. It sounds as though there is a slight chance it could work but most likely not. I am tempted to buy the card and upgrade the ps if I have problems. But if I am gonna spend that much I might wait. Or at least try to buy a nice enough PS that it will work in my next rig and for the next couple years.

The sapphire has a refund policy so I might spend an extra 20 and get that.

edit: I finally cracked my case. I guess I have an Antec True 430. So I guess I have a 430W. Lots better then 350 (not sure why I thought that) but may or may not be enough.
