I'm looking at upgrading from an AMD 64 3200 to X2 4400, 6800GT 256MB to x1900XT 256MB, and a SONY 19" Brightview to 37" Westinghouse 37" HD LCD 1920x1080. Any thoughts? Would this be worth it? The LCD is 1289 no tax (I'm military) and local (no shipping I pickup =P). Any thoughts/opinions? I've done research for oh forever and read all the forums but this is what I'm thinking of going with. As I read this forum the most and have become quite fond of some of your opinions and personalities any and all input would be very appreciated!:D

Sounds very very nice, the x1900xt is a good choice, the monitor's company i'm not sure of,but 37" iS HUGE! and the cpu upgrade is fine the X2 4400+ is a pretty good dual core.

PS:No one mention C2D because he is UPGRADING not building.K thanks.

get a Core 2... ok, ill cut it.. :D

but yes,.. it sounds pretty nice to me. altough, i dont know if 37" wouldnt be a bit too much for gaming. how far are you sitting away from it?

if he has a wireless keyboard and mouse,he can have a couch in the middle of a room and play, imagine that,no strain on the eyes and a massive display.

27ft

I'm sitting 27ft away =). J/K I sit about 4-5 ft away. I have read I will need to turn down the brightness and that should solve most of the "huge" problems. Most people who I've read about looove this monitor. I've seen 2 different ones on display in different lighting running tv and a computer using gimp chipset graphics and it looked amazing. It's something you walk by stop and say "WOW". Or I guess I could get 2 27" HD LCD's for $1200 =P.

Umm...I believe 5 feet away is WAY too less for 37". You'll probably get motion sickness playing BF2 or something. Spend the money on something else, get dual monitors or something.

I have a 22 inch WestingHouse LCD that I use as my monitor, I love it its very good quality and a great picture.

I also think 37 is way too big for that close.

Well I have two 19" displays in dual mode. So thats like 38" (approx). I like the 27" but it doesnt have the high res. it has 1366x768 bleh. :D

Is this purely for gaming? If it's for gaming, i would HIGHLY reconmmend getting a smaller and one, and if you have to money to spend, get a high quality small one. Then use the rest of the money to get a better graphics card or something.

Resolution?

What resolution would you recommend? I mainly game yes.:P

X1950xt

He's getting an x1900...there isnt much better he can get.

X1950XT or the 7950GX2 if I cut the monitor expense in half I'd still come out ahead =). But I don't wanna drop that much on a video card when DX10 is coming. The x1900xt 256mb is $239 on newegg.com :)

umm wow. with a 37" monitor i would need to sit so far back that i couldnt see it.
of course im nearsighted so thats why... i still think its a waste of money. what do you need something so big for? lol maybe you like to watch tv with your computer? i know i would if i had a tv card...
my crt tv downstairs is smaller, its only a 27"
this is why i cant wait until i get out of college and get a well paying job haha..
personally though, if i had the money, id build a crossfire system. that would be so amazing... oh, and get an x6800 and overclock to like 4ghz haha... with like... a phase change cooler... that would be so amazing...
that was so weird too, cause i was debating looking at joining the service earlier, just because money is so tight for me right now, i can't find a well paying job... maybe rotc or something so i can go to college still? lol

ROTC would pay you pretty good. You should look into it. I would have to make about $70K a year to equal what I make with the navy pay and benefits. I also jus had PRK Laser eye surgery for free from the Navy! Sorry to jack my own post.

Anyways I'm not sure seeing the monitor in person it looks large but not like too close would be a problem if the brightness was turned down.

That would be awesome.. i mean, thats better as force-feedback or something like that.. you spin around in a hely, and actually get dizzy yourself :D :P

but yes, for 5 feet distance, i wouldnt get a monitor that big. get a 24" or so for that distance, that shoud do really nice :)
