3D DriveGuard vs ProtectSmart

what's the difference between these two programs from HP ? seems like they do exactly the same -lockin' the HD pin heads when falling or moving or whatever..

which one should I install ? my notebook came with the DriveGuard, but on HP drivers page, the ProtectSmart shows while the other doesn't.. is that a sign of a ProtectSmart being a newer version of 3D DriveGuard??

thanks :)

and is there any way to operate the bluetooth chip without installing all the HP Wireless and bluetooth software crap ?

thanks

edit:

on the same post, are these all un-needed bloatware?

HP Update
IDT Audio
Intel Matrix Storage Manager

You can disable Hp update. IDT audio is your sound driver so don't delete it. The Intel matrix storage manager is for your hard drive, either you are running raid or ahci and it needs to run.

Hmm regarding the IDT, ive been talkin about the software that runs in the tray, not the driver, I wanted to delete just the driver.. and there's also an Intel Audio Codec [HDMI] thingie right next to the IDT audio codec in the device center.. any clue what it is ??

thanks, and dont forget the main questions regarding the bluetooth and protectsmart :)

You need to leave the intel audio codec alone, its part of your system. About the HP software, I have no clue as i'm not sure about bluetooth. If you disable the hp wireless i'm sure your wireless card will quit working.

What do you mean leave the intel codec alone ?

I have:

Sound, video and game controllers:

IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI

my question is whether I can remove the IDT Audio SOFTWARE that runs in the background (not the driver), and why the heck do I have 2 sound cards ?! which one of them does what ? thanks

Those are drivers in device manager are they not? If so, leave them alone. Everything in there allows your computer to work correctly. If you uninstall anything in add/remove programs relating to those programs you will lose the functionality. What model of HP computer do you have?

You have an hdmi output on the laptop and thats what the intel high definition audio hdmi is for. Your are worried over small things, leave everything alone except for the hp bloatware they put on it.

Ok thank you very much my friend :)

One last thing, how, in Freddie Mercury's name, do I get the bluetooth thingie to work on my Win7?

I've installed the "Software Support for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology for Microsoft Windows 7"

it says:

Prerequisites
- Bluetooth Module must be enabled and powered on. - Microsoft Windows 7 Bluetooth Bus Enumerator and Bluetooth Stack must be installed. - HP Wireless Assistant is required for device control via software.

where do I enable the bluetooth module and where do I download these bus enumerator and bluetooth stack ? I cant find em on HP website..

I'm not familiar with bluetooth and how it works. I suggest you either call HP for support or wait for someone else to chime in.
