3G/4G routers - use with a modem?

I want to set up a wireless network in my apartment. I'm looking at a TP-Link TL-MR3420, which someone recommended (I can get it for a reduced price, so that's no issue.) What confuses me is the term "3G router". I know pretty much what it means, but can I use a 3G router with a modem like any other router? I thought I saw a modem port on the back + 4 LAN ports, but I just wanted to make sure. Don't want to buy things that only work with 3G receivers etc. This may be a stupid question, but I don't know much about these things. Thanks!

I agree with John, if you don't have any plans on using it for 3G/4G mobile broadband, why not just by a better traditional router that's better for the same price?

The whole reason for a router like this is due to its "failover" capability whereas when your regular internet service goes down it can automatically switch over to the cellular 3G to keep you working until the service comes back up.

I agree with the others that if you're not going to use that feature, why not buy a different router? No sense paying for a feature that will never be used.

I don't mind the 3G feature, it might very well come in handy. I just wanted to make sure that was not the only way to connect it to the Internet. I'm getting it for a reduced price, so I won't be wasting a lot of money. Thanks for replying!

You do realize that in order to make use of the 3G portion you need to buy a 3G cellular modem and subscribe to a data plan for it, don't you?
