Just bought a new Hp laptop (dv6827eo)

The place i bought it says it has 4gb ram, but when i look for the amount in vista under system it only says 3gb?

Vista 32-bit

I removed the back of the laptop to see the actual ram and i found 2, but couldnt see how much they held and didnt want to rip em out.

wait, so 32-bit will only use 3gb?

ok, so it uses all 4gb but only detects up to 3gb?

Uhh I don't know about your problem, but if theres 2 sticks, theres 4gb, unless you have 2x1gb.

You may want to Look for your Shared Memory. you can find it in your (bios) by pressing "del" key after powering on your PC. a computer with a built in videocard that goes with the motherboard usually consumes the said memory.

32-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista can only use about 3.5Gb of memory, this limit is far larger on the 64-bit versions. I've seen charts on the different Vista editions maximum memory utilization, I think it was something like this:
Basic 8Gb
Home Premium 16Gb
Ultimate, Business and Enterprise 128Gb+

yeah 32 bit oses wont use 4gb properley

when you put vista sp1 on it will show the right amount detected, but you still wont be able to use it all
