3GB video card vs 4gb video card

So my question is this.

While doing research on building a new gaming rig for my son, ran into a question I can't find an answer to on Google. Which is better as far as the video card goes, a 3gb video card with a 384-bit interface, or a 4GB card with a 256-bit interface? I was thinking the bigger interface would be the way to go, but still at a lose for an answer.

Thank you

Depends on the actual card you're looking at.

I narrowed it down to these two cards

EVGA 03G-P4-3788-KR G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0

EVGA 04G-P4-3775-KR GeForce GTX 770 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0

The 770 will be a perfectly fine card, but the 780 is a more powerful card. It depends on how much you want to spend.

So even though it's a gig less, the wider interface would make up for loss in gigs?

Also let's assume that both of these cards are GTX 780 cards, would the 3 gig with a wider memory interface be better than the 4 with a 256 bit interface.

More video memory only helps when running multiple monitors and very high resolutions. Running a modern game on 1 screen at 1080P will work perfectly fine with 3GB.
