4 pin cpu power problem

so today i got a new mobo (abit KN9 SLI), cpu (athlon x2 3800+) and ram (two 512 sticks of pc2 6400).

my problem is when i power on the computer it turns on for one second then turns off. but if i dont plug in the 4 pin cpu power connecter the computer stays on but of course the cpu, hdd, cd drive, and floppy drive dont power up.

so my question is what could be causeing my computer to not boot up? i know my power supply is in good working condition too.

Which 4 pin are you refering to? That board has 2 4pin connectors. One is the 2x2 CPU power (yellow-black/black-yellow, which I think is the one you mean but I have to be sure) and the other is a 4x1 molex (red-black-black-yellow).

If you computer stays on, then the CPU has power. What's the full hardware list you have?

The problem besides possible bad connections or miss plugging something like the wiring from the front panel for power there would point at the board directly. Are you plugging all 24pins in on the 20+4 pin main connector? Or sliding off the 4 wire mini-plug there? It seems like something is seeing a reversed polarity like either the power switch wires are reversed or the board is a "reject"?!

Go back to the user manual and even take a pocket magnifying glass and a pen light to verify all wiring from the front panel to see "IF" a pair of those was put on wrong. Hopefully it will be a simply goof there.

yes all 24 are pluged in. the board isnt a "reject" because i have had two boards do the same thing.

i just checked all the power connections and they are all right

ok i got it to work. call me stupid but the problem is i didnt have all the screws on the mobo screwed in and some of them were connected to the in the wrong spot for a smaller mobo. i just changed them to the right spot and put every screw in and now it works

Good thing you don't play baseball. You would be "grounding out" all of the time! :P I know... I know... but rechecking things did reveal... "simple goof"! It happens to all of us no matter how long you're in this field.
