Athlon XP 2600+ 1.90 GHz 333 MHz 512 KB = $78

Sempron 2500+ 1.70 GHz 333 MHz 256 KB = $77

I think the XP would be a better deal unless he goes for the socket 754, then he might as well get an athlon 64.
 
Well, thank you, i was talking to him, and he said he could wait a while if he had to, and i told him he should, so i am waiting for any drop in prices before i buy the parts....haha i'm getting pretty good at building now!
 
the xbox would be great for typing your school essay and then printing it out on fancy paper wouldnt it?? lol

Wow! Good work. :) However, are you sure you only want a hard drive with ATA-100? That's a little slow. Wouldn't you want something of ATA-133 speed?
 
Well, i'd prefure there being a western didgital hard drive, so its more reliable and i can be happy with my work

isn't the connection better/faster on an ata-133? or whats even the point of going higher then?
 
Raise the budget a little...

If your friend raised the budget about $100, then that would be enough to use the games he likes. Just order the right parts from Newegg.com and it will be a satisfying deal for him. Although the price of $500 doesn't include the OS. I'm sure you can find some way to get that. ;)

And, anyway, how much do u expect prices to go down by around christmas time? he said that he could wait if that ment that much of a preformance increase for the price.
