I'm looking to build a desktop for christmas. Thing is, I don't know much about CPUs or motherboards. I'm looking to spend $400 and below. I know, my budget is pretty low. The CPU should be at least duo, but once again, I don't know much about PCUs. I don't need a monitor or keyboard or anything of the sort.

Sorry for the low price guideline.

Thanks for the help.

It's ok to go a bit over $400, maybe a bit close to $500.

What is the computer going to be designed for?

Idk if they still make the 8800GTX but I have it for my old comp and its great for a old card. Plays crysis on high with no lag.

I'm not at all concerned with a graphics card. The on-board one will most likely be as much as I need. I'm more concerned towards a nice, fast, reliable computer for around $400.

Well with that budget, just get Linux. (Or is Google Chrome free?)

Google Chrome? Thats a web browser.

If you are playing any games, or movies, I'd get a graphics card. You can go on newegg and get a solid HD one for $25 with mail in rebates. Look around on newegg there are some really good deals right now. I built a HTPC for $200 (not including hdd and os) and its probably as good as your needs.

General use for the most part. I'll do some gaming, but I don't need an extravagant graphics card.

It's called Chrome OS.

It's the same because the OS is basically just a browser.
