40gb ssd

I've decided to switch to an SSD for my OS-programs drive, which is currently a regular 80GB mechanical. I don't really game, and for any I do happen to install, I would be just fine with installing them on my 1TB storage drive -- so I won't need a big SSD. After Windows 7 and my programs, it's only around 24GB, so I really only need a 40GB SSD, with plenty of free space as a cushion.

My reason for this post is this: does anyone know of a quality 40GB SSD that I could find at a cheaper price than the Crucial M4 64GB one for $115? Also, are there any Sata 3 SSDs with a 40GB capacity? I can only seem to find Sata 2's. Thanks.

You know what, I think I'll just go with the Crucial M4 64GB. I was hoping to cut a little cost going with a smaller drive, which would also be large enough - but there simply doesn't seem to be as good of quality or speed in the 40GB range.

You could get away with 40gb if you can keep c:\ from getting fat with time. But with the price of 40, might as well get 60-64.
I like the Force GT then the Vertex 3 above.
Suggetion-whichever one you get, check the with the manufacturer to see if there is a firmware update that they recommend,,,before you install the os.

Thanks for the suggestions and input guys. Yeah, my motherboard supports Sata 3 (relatively new build, AM3+...and it does). While I've heard mixed reviews about the OCZ drives, especially depending on the specific models, I plan on steering clear of them, at least at this point in time. Also, if I'm going to spend $100 or more, I might as well go all the way to $115 or so for the Crucial M4, which looks perfect for my needs, judging by the reviews.

And yeah, I really CAN swing a 40GB easily with what I want to use it for. After Windows 7 and my programs, 24GB will be where it will top out at, and it won't get any larger. Worst-case scenario, I suddenly come across a few very large programs I want to add to my list which come out to more than a few GBs. If that was the case (which is unlikely) I would simply put them on my storage drive. Actually, I could even swing a 32GB drive, but would be right at the 25% cushion point after my 23-24GB fillup. And the quality of 32GB drives seems to be worse than the 40GB ones. I assume it's a generational thing.

I think I'll spend that little bit extra and choose the Crucial M4. Thanks again.

Oh, also, I did read the "Setup and Manage SSD" sticky a couple days ago. It was filled with a ton of good information, some of it I didn't even know, so thanks for that Benny. That reminds me that I had a question about that. Would performance be better if I shrunk the drive or if I simply didn't fill it up and left 25% or so free? How about for long-term? I was planning on simply leaving a chunk free rather than partitioning/shrinking, and assumed that would be fine.

Yeah, I actually have about 56% free on my 32GB, but that's just win 7 and a couple drivers. Wish I had a bigger one for my most played games, but that would require too much work.

The Crucial is a great drive. If you haven't used an SSD before, be prepared to be very happy.
