Too bad you couldnt have done it in 94.

Haha mine was 4000 USD

I think mine cost like 4000 USD.

It was (still is) a Compaq Presario 5600. It retailed at about 4000 USD with the LCD monitor...

Now this was back in 1998 (mid-year I think):

Configuration 350MHz Pentium II with 512K integrated cache, 128MB of RAM, 8GB hard disk, 4MB of video SGRAM, DVD-ROM drive, 56Kbps v.90 modem, 10MB Ethernet port, 2 USB ports, 1 IEEE-1394 port

YEAH...it even had Firewire! And yes, the graphics card worked in AGP 2x mode...

It was a monster back then...and with the Panasonic LCD monitor that mys siter still uses, it was something. I remember getting Incoming (game) and was the only one of the people that I knew who could play that. Amazing stuff...

JAN :D

ya, technology changes very quickly, i remember when we bought our compaq in 2001, i thought it was one of the most top of the line computers:

1.1Ghz Celeron
256MB ram
40GB hard drive
16MB integrated video

only costs about $700-$800 tho.

486 packardbell with 66 mhz, 4mb ram upgraded to 8mb, 420 mb hdd, 2x cd rom drive,

got it best buy for about 2500$

Never look back at what you paid for your computers...you'll just get depressed!

Back then it really paid to build your own!

my first PC in '98 or '99... cant really remember

$100

Intel Pentium 3
64 MB RAM
32 MB nVidia Vanta GPU
16 GB HD
1 DVD-ROM (8x speed)
56k modem
Packard Bell 15" CRT
mouse
keyboard
surge protector power strip

added a 52x CD burner to it later which cost me $50, half of what i paid for the computer itself :D
