I was going to get a 939 socket and processer instead, but a sudden unexpected expense came up, and technically i still have enough money for it, but that would leave me with not enough extra incase another expece comes up. So I want to upgrade to a better 478, i currently have a Intel Cleron D 2.8ghz. I want a P4, just not sure whats better, and which kind and speed. How much of a increase of performace could i get from upgrading? for cpu intensive programs anyways.

Well it would probably be cheaper to buy a new motherboard and a 939 A64, since the lowest P4 you would probably want to get is a 3.2ghz, and for a little bit more money you can buy an AMD A64 3200+ and a cheap motherboard.

But if you really want a P4, i'd say go with a 3.2Ghz.

the cheapest mobo/a64 combo is 100$, I can get almost any P4 for my socket at fry's for any that. and the ones i cant they dont carry.

And explain to me exactly how its cheaper BECAUSE the lowest i would want is 3.2ghz.....

I have a P4VTE motherboard.

Well you'd get a significant performance jump going to something like ASUS P4P800SE ... ive gotten about a dozen of those boards for various systems ive built for people: very nice board :)

1.What would make it better?[Seroisly don't know, not trying to give you attitude haha, I want to actully know) it has the same fsb, supports same ram and supports everything else the P4vte does.

Plus I already have a P4VTE motherbored, and as I siad, I don't have as much money as I thought I would have.

Fry's Electronic's. it would be the 3000+ model with a ECS or soyo mobo(becuase that is what all there cheap combo's are)

These are retail store only, they have a online store but there combbo's don't apply there, if you live by one get there advertisment each time(tuesday is buisness, friday in the back of the register, and satuerady as there own big add with the newspaper[at least here in South OC in CA])and each week(or 2x a week) they have a new specail, one for AMD and one for INTEL, wait untill the 3000+ model comes back in the rotation and it's ussaly 104$.

I missed it twice :( the first time i forgot to look at the ad untill ike 3 days to late, the sedond time I went there to pick it up two days after the ad, and they were sold out, and then I was waiting for the rotation again to buy it again when i had the unexpected expense and can no longer spend 100$ on it.
