I'll be getting a full refund of $150. what are some viable options as alternatives? Better yet, i'd like a cheaper 4850 so i have some cash left over. My new mobo support SLI so myabe i should go with nvidia? My powersupply only has 1x 6pin connector but i'll probably get a new PSU later on.

My 3870 does the job but i'd like better performance. overclocking it works but it gets hot pretty fast. the 4xxx series also handles anti aliasing better.

You know what's hot and what's not from hanging around here. :D

It all depends on what you want to do in the future.

Will you ever SLI your board? Yes? Get an nVidia card, but for $150
you're pretty much stuck with a GTS 250.

You could get a 4870 for that much.

If you plan to SLI I would save more money and get a better nVidia card.

If you're not going to SLI, I would save just a bit more and get a 4890.

It's really hard to upgrade when you don't "need" to. :)

Sorry if this was no help at all, which is what I'm thinking...

I found another 4850 for $135 free shipping... maybe i shoulg get that? Wait, thats the first link you put in there. lol.

damn my capped internet... pages taking ages to load.

EDIT: I'll just get that sapphire 4850 from ebay. i was actually watching that one since last week

Yea the sapphire one is good to bad your motherboard doesn't support CF instead of SLI. Nvidia cards in AU are super expensive.

For some reason, I get the feeling that my money will be refunded and before i can even order another card the 4850 will turn up in the post.

Or maybe i've just had too much sugar today...

I'd go with 4770 if you want to OC. My 4850 got fried up on stock settings after 2 months.

Just because you have one bad experience doesn't mean everybody will. I have a 4850 and it overclocked and idles at between 38-45C and it never gone above 61C on a full load. You obviously just got a bad card what manufacture was your card from.

Aww man.... I am so bored right now... i've played the sh*t out of all my games and my internet is capped... Plus i'm constantly refreshing my paypal seeing if my money has been refunded yet.

It was the Sapphire, the first generation ones, with the crappy cooler, I don't think it should have been even sold to me! It went 100C after 10 mins of crysis, and died after 2 months of usage. With 4 fans and Antec 300.

Was that the single slot version? i'm guessing it was. I'm getting the dual slot version.

There is only 5C difference from single to dual slot, so be aware! I'd really go for GTS 250.

Like I said you can not expect the same thing to happen to every 4850. I have installed a lot a sapphire 4850's in computer and there isn't anything wrong with them.

BTW the GTS 250 is about $250 where he lives so it's not an option.

Plus, all the nvidia cards that i can afford require 2x 6pin connections.
Ati is much better with power usage... but they need to ditch those horrible little fans that just blow the hot air into your case...

I hope my mobo arrives today! Scout said 10 days (working days i assume) so today makes the 9th day but I hope it comes today... I need something to do.

Still not there...we are about the 10 day mark. The lady said..."10 days and it will be there"

Send me a PM when it arrives.

Remember...look through the box...I threw in some little stuff. There is a tube of Arctic Silver 5 in there and some velcro for the cathode.
