hi guys,

as you all know ive bought a new graphics card but when i play a game for about 10-15 min it overheats and i have to restart my computer im running games on 1280 res and ive set the fan to automatic and it still keeps on overheating. is this normal what am i doing wrong?!?

The default setting on graphics card fans is about 30%, which is usually too low. So, download rivatuner, and bump up the fan speed to about 50%, or whatever is needed. That should fix the over heating problem.

Rivatuner 2.20

im using the asus one what my graphics card supplied me, its called smartdoctor and ive set that at auto speed, you think river tune is better?

As far as I know, setting it at auto speed doesn't give it variable speed. It just always goes at that default setting. I had the same problem with my 8800 GT's default fan speed. If you can change the speed through smartdoctor, then go ahead and use that. I just like Rivatuner for adjusting fan speed, overclocking, and hardware monitoring all in one.

ive set the fan to 100% do you think thats far too high wont it wear out quicker now, now ive set the fan on max?

I wouldnt worry about the fan wearing out but at 100% people say its far too loud as others have suggested put it on about 50 - 70%

ok this is really annoying and scaring me all the time it crashes on mea monitor going straight to power save mode, should i send it back!!!

It's still overheating and crashing? Is your processor overclocked? If so, it might be overclocked a little too high. How is the airflow in the case? Rear exhaust, front intake or side intake is a must. Also, if the inside of the case is dusty that can cause insulation, and hold the heat in.

ive got no fans apart from the cpu fan and gpu fan my case is a tad dusty, and your positive if i get a case fans and exhaust it will cure the problem?

Yes, I'm positive that will cure the problem. It is vital to have at least one fan to intake cool air (usually in the front), and one to expel the hot air produced (usually out the back) Regularly getting rid of the dust in the case is important too.

are you using the reference model or the one with glaciator fan? just wana know if there's actually a decrease in temperature with the glaciator.

because on other forums they say the reason why its doing it is because your just using stock cooling eg cpu fan and the graphics card fan i havnt got any case fans or exhaust fans maybe thats why, I was thinking about taking it back, what do you guys think

it has nothing to do with it been stock fan mate, the Glaciator cooler is mroe effective than any stock fan its much better.

i idle here right now at 39c with a 8800GT

ive put in my case 4 case fans and i have open the side panel and about 10 min in the game not even that it restarts itself?!?!
