4850 overheating problems

restarting eh.....i wonder if your Psu just isnt giving enough juice either?

you could always replace the fan though with a Zalman or something better if you dont like those temps.

the box has the min/rec settings and my computer exceeds those on all parts

Recommended System Requirements
2G system memory or more for best performance
Motherboard with free PCI Express slot and correct PCIe chipset driver
A Minimum 450W system power supply
Microsoft Windows XP/Vista

EDIT: i'am using the 4 pin molex's instead of my dedicated pci express power connector on my PSU unit

well its an adapter 2 4 pin molex's converted into 6 pin pci connector, i cant connect the PSU pci connector not enough slack

dont worry about it anymore i think its not the GFX card i believe its the cpu getting to hot and having to restart

i dont know i dont want to go through all this hassle again, what do you think, maybe it was just unlucky that card was a dud

i think you should just take a replacement card mate, honestly Asus stuff are great i think you just got a bad un.

but like everything you buy,it does not matter which brand make it is there could always be a defective one.

I took a look on Ebuyer and tbh i cant realy see anything within the £118-£120 price range that beats the 4850 so thats the best your gonna get i think.

just to fill you in, i called ebuyer tech support and they think its because the GFX card isnt getting enough power i said i got a 530watt PSU and he then said what you got running on that so i said 2 DVD's, 2 HDD, amd X2, 4 rams and he siad probably PSU so. what do you guys reckon?

I would've though 530 watts would be enough, it's not like you're running all that much or anything that powerful. It's actually about what ati recommend.

Does it happen in all games? Are you sure it's an overheating problem and not software related?

impossible... Korno's running 2 8800GTS with a 520W Corsair PSU!

it doesnt happen in most games call of duty runs really well without crashing but when i try to run flatout ultimate carnage it runs it really well but after about 5 minutes into the game the display goes blank and enter powersave mode

Hmm, Just Return your card, get another. If it still does not work then try a different card? Your PSU may not be functioning correctly, that could also be a problem. Look into both :)

just to let you guys know my new power supply came today i ordered the akasa 1000w, so i tested it and still after about 10 minutes into running games my display lost the signal (GFX overheateing) so sending them both back but im going to be getting replacement card. Il let you know further details

i spoke to the lady over the phone and she said maybe my pc is not compatible with the card but my pc is not bad for an old timer its a amd x2 s939, 4gb ram and 530w tagan psu, im just wondering wether or not to get a replacement card or just get refund???

Well, after reading through every post, here's my honest assessment of your situation:

- Clean the dust out of your case and get some good ventilation in there! Dust doesn't belong amongst high quality parts like the 4850. Ever. Get some compressed air or even a regular fan (better than nothing) and get some of that junk out of there. I suggest unhooking everything and taking it outside and leaving your mouth closed haha--it could get messy.
- The card may or may not be faulty. It's hard to say since so many variables were wrong from the start (questionable PSU, dust, no case fans (?!!), automatic fan setting--which for the 4850 is a no-no). If you've corrected all of these things and still get the problem, then yea, maybe it's time to return the card. If you get another one and the problem persists, you're probably doing something wrong.
- I can't help but shake the feeling that you're using Rivatuner wrong. Did you set the fan speed at 50 or higher (well-ventilated cases would only need about 40), make sure to hit the "Apply" button, and save the Startup settings so you are at that fan speed every time you start Windows?
- The 4850 is overkill anyway with an x2 4200 processor. It's going to be bottlenecked, and won't run your games any better than a 9600GT or similar level card. It could be a good investment down the road if you plan on upgrading your mobo and CPU soon, but otherwise, you might as well go for a cheaper card. You won't see any difference with that CPU, trust me.
