I got a 4870 1Gig version that when playing games i notice that I am getting a max of 60fps. I have changed resolution set things lower but still 60fps. Do I need to reinstall my games or is this normal?? I have heard people getting much higher #'s so I am curious. Thanks.

CPU: Phenom x2 550 @ 3.8
MB: MA790x-UD4P
MEM: Gskill 4Gig @ 1066
GPU: 4870 1Gig

Most games limit viewable FPS.

There's usually a code you can type into the console that will unlock it.

Example:
BF2142 is default at 100.
Press the "~" key and type "gamelock.fps 200"

Now it will show up to 200 FPS.

alright so it is normal

I did a performance test on HAWX and it said my avg is 59fps and my max is 226fps but fraps never showed that being my max.

I turned off V-Sync and it made my fps shoot throught the roof. I have an average of 96fps and a max of 262fps with max res.

I have a 24in 1080p monitor what would be the recommened res to run games?
If I am not going to tell a difference running at a lower res that is.

I am planning on turning it back on (vsync( but was wanting to make sure my gpu was working properly since I just got it within the last week. thanks for the help on that

Your native resolution is the best, about the Vsync, it limits FPS to your refesh rate, I quite like it, in some games it stops the "tearing" in the screen, and prevents FPS jumps which I hate, I like to have steady 60fps.

That's why i chose a monitor with a 75hz refresh rate. it's much better with a higher refresh rate and vsync.

not really, from my epxerienced 75Hz with vsync lags a bit, I mean it drops to about 70fps in demanding games, however, 60Hz works just fine with almost any game, except Crysis of course and maybe GTA IV. Some monitors only have 60Hz at highest resolution, like mine Samsung 20 inch, 1680/1050 and only 60Hz is available.
