4870 crossfire?

Is it starting to look like a Ati 4870 crossfire with a X48 Mb and a Q9550 cpu is the way to go for a cost effective high performance gaming build?There is lots of speculation out there but what does everyone think right now on what info we have gotten?Looking for a good gaming build myself.
 
Is the 4870 x2 suppose to be better than 2 separate 4870's or will be similar the 3870 and 3870 x2 with the single cards getting better results? Wont the x48 Oc higher though?
 
Not sure yet, well no one is sure yet. If the 4870X2 will feature GDDR5 or not. Even if it does, two 4870's will more than likely out perform it due to each its own dedicated PCI slot.
 
Yeah ifigure if it was as good it would defeat the purpose of having 2 pci express slots ,hehe.I guess you could run 2 4870x2 in crossfire though ..that would be pretty sweet.
