4870 vs gtx 260: again...

My head is spinning from trying to decide which card to get and before I decide a new one will be out. I can get either card for the same price so I'm looking at performance. I play @ 1440x900 res atm and prolly will until a new card releases. That means that 512mb ram on the 4870 should be enough right? The 4870 also has GDDR5 which will prolly look amazing and DX10.1 support. What I dont like about it is the shitty temps (not a serious problem with lifetime warranty for visiontek) and the horrible drivers. The gtx 260 has solid drivers and cmon, its from nvidia :). Its got more memory just in case I need it and out performs the 4870 on some games. Te game im buying this card for will be Crysis since my 9600gt can max out pretty much any other game I play Im not too worried about frames outside of Crysis. WIth all this being said, someone please help me decide which card to get so I can get rid of this headache and finally have a beast in my room. Thanks.

get the 260, i've heard that its about the same performance, i hope you found the deal going where you can get the 260 for 185?

ive freakin looked everywhere for it but all the pages that ppl link are down, if I find it im instantly buying it

i think at that point, it would be up to your moniter, i mean on a 15" crt, i doubt you would see either one as being very good for display

Thats a good one! At one time ATI cards were considered to have (how would you word it) better color depth/density (what ever) then Nvidia. But I think in was all the eye of the beholder.

I've read that too. Both are great cards, IMO. To me, it would probably come down to whether or not you plan to run a dual card config in the future.

If I find the GTX 260 @ below $200 itll be an easy decision. Before that happens, the GTX 260 is $10 cheaper then the 4870 that I chose. For a single frame difference Ill go for the slightly cheaper one :). PLEASE message me if you stumble across the GTX 260 @ $180ish. Thanks again.
