Okay so after playing Dead space just my 4890 was 89c....now its sitting idle at 56c,I want it cooler!

looking around the Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo fits the 4890,But what do i need to do about the VRM cooling though?

http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_&mID=101&language=en

See it says on the main features on the cooler...

RAM and voltage regulator cooling

Do i need to buy ramsinks?

By the way my card is slightly overclocked...

GPU-900Mhz
Memory-1000Mhz

I think that unit comes with ram sinks (not good ones though). I used to have an AC Accelero S1 and the ram sink that came with it were pretty crappy.

as long as there isnt artifacts on screen, just save your cash-sell the 4890 and put some money towards it and buy a 5*** series!

i got my 5850@24oC because i spent £500 on a liquid cooling loop, the 4890 will handle them temps easy-just seems high cos of people who have sytems like mine and produce figures like mine does

your 4890 is not hot, its normal

After reading this post, I looked at my temps on my 4870 and the comps. been for the last 9-10 hours and its ar 68 degrees. My 4870X2 with this cooler your looking at runs at 32 degrees playing games. I'd say buy it to lower your temps.

If you overclocked it yourself, you could always reset it back to stock settings. It's free, and should give it an instant drop in temp. If it came overclocked, then just leave it, it should be fine.
I have the Gigabyte HD4890 and it's running idle at 40*C... In games normally around the 50*C-55*C... However, a few days ago I was having a problem with it overheating due to a hell of a lot of dust built up in the fan from the last 6 months... So if your card is a few months old, take it out, give it a good clean, whack it back in, see if that helps.

Well ive just set up my other monitor as a 2nd display and watched my system temps on that while i was playing BC2.

Highest temp was 87c...its now idle at 62c

fan speed is 50%

I think il still get that aftermarket cooler :)

The accelero coolers are very very good and they do come with memory coolers yes.

An alternate to the Twin Turbo would be the accelero S1 + fans. Saves you a few £ and gives similar performance and is quieter than the twin turbo. Marginally, but it is. You could probably save even more and not get the turbo module if you alreay have a spare fan, just cable tie it on and it will do the same job

Another option would be to clean out your card and replace the thermal interface material, see if that helps temperatures any.

I would just get the cooler. I would rather spend a bit of money to have my card run <40c then have it run at over 85c all the time. Also, I'm pretty sure that any good heatsink by Arctic will be much better than any stock heatsink. ;)

Ah they do come with memory coolers thats great, Il be ordering one of those tommorow then when i can transfer some funds over for it.

Nope i dont think i have a spare fan lying around,Anyhow id just prefer to get a all-in-one typoe of thing, saves the hastle.

Yeah Funkys right i already done all that,It did drop temps by 7c which isnt bad,Bud its not good enough for my liking.

Now the Accelero comes with TX-2 pre-applied,Do you guys recommend i use that or apply my own?

I know it is only an 8600gt, not a 4890, but on my accelero s1 which comes with the same thermal paste on it handled the temps fine (was getting to 100s and shutting my system down, with the s1 on wasn't breaking 40 at any point). Leave it as is at first I'd say and check those temps, no need to bother with it if it is alright is there? If the temps could be significantly improved from changing the paste you think, then do so, you don't know until you get it and try

I'd apply your own, as when stuff is already spread on there it can cause air pockets.

Alright thanks guys,

Im gonna give my system a good clean while i have it open...my cpu core temps are a bit on the toasty side too...75c,73c,70c,68c when playing BC2...43c idle temps.:o :D

you know what i do when things sart to get warm, pull the whole rig to bits and everything that has a heatsink on gets pulled of and new thermal paste (shin-etsu) gets put on

everything gets cleaned fans, dust filters, heatsinks, water blocks, inside the case etc etc

basicly my pc ends up in every single bit possible (under reason) cleaned cheacked for damage then put back together along with a fresh install of windows

might seem a little overkill that is because it is but i dont mind, i spend so much money on it and i like too look after it

I dont know much about computer cleaning where do the thermal pastes go i just know one place to apply it that is b/w the cpu and its cooler where else can I use it and I have an XFX GTX 275 how can I open its plastic casing to clean the fan and what else could I do to keep my computer clean and Cool

Right it looks like il just have to stick with the stock cooler :(...Theres quite a few aftermarket heatsinks out there for the 4890,But...theyre not cooling the VRMs very well and the cards are cooking themselves...which i dont want!

If you use the VRM coolers that come with the AC units, or, buy another pack (only a few £) and have fans on the HSF, the air through the fins will hit the VRM heatsinks too, blowing the heat away
