4890 or 5850

It will be hard really....5850 and 5870 are the first DX11 cards and they destroy all previous cards + Nvidia's cards so till Fermi they will sell like hot cakes.

So next time you see it buy it asap.

4890 gets my vote,just because i have one :D

nah, alot of people seem to be going mad over the 5 series just because its DX11 but when games realy start taking full advantage of DX11 the 5850 will probably be a bit slow to show the real potential of DX11.

I say go with the 4890,not only because of the price difference,But its a high end 4800 series and is a beast!

Wait until the HD5850 is in stock.

It's a beast of a card... when clocked to the same speeds as the HD5870, it's around 5-8% slower, for a lot less money.

It consumes a lot less power, overclocks better (usually at least; overclocks aren't guaranteed), performs better in EVERY game and also is more future proof, with it having support for DirectX 11, etc.

That's not the reason the HD58XX series is so hyped. Or at least not the reasons I've seen, anyway. Their power consumption stats are simply mind-blowing for the performance you get. The HD5870, at stock in the majority of benchmarks (I believe STALKER: Call Of Pripyat goes just over this mark) stays under 150W of power draw... simply amazing, if you ask me.

And obviously the HD5850, with it having less shader clusters enabled, lower clocks, etc. will have even lower power consumption.

I don't think that the HD5850 will be slow with the up-take of DX 11 games at all, to be honest. If it is, then so will the HD5870, since the difference between them isn't night-and-day, and that won't happen.

which would be better for a 32" 1080p tv?

Also, can I hook a dvi to hdmi adapter to the 4890 so it compliments the 1080?

I thought 5850 requires less juice then the 4890.

Yeah, it does.

Probably around 40W less, depending on overclocks and voltage.

It's a common misconception that the more powerful the GPU, the more power it requires. Thankfully, due to smaller manufacturing processes, this is not true.
